Now Hiring: Camera Phone Paparazzi

July 12, 2008 in Industry News

A recent picture of Gwyneth Paltrow surfing earned the photographer 16,000 pounds (about $32,000 American Dollars) and now, given the proliferation of camera phones, the paparrazi want to employ the power of the preying public - you!

Mr. Paparazzi himself - who maintains one of the largest celebrity blogs and whose company buys and sells celebrity pictures at ridiculous margins - is making it incredibly simple for any average Joe to snap a picture on their camera phone and submit it their company for the potential to earn tens of thousands of dollars. The mobile version of the site will allow folks to upload their pics directly, with photos used by publications earning 50% of their sale price… every time they are used!

Looks like anyone who had a smidgin of respect for the private lives of celebrities just got thrown down the drain. ZOMG IS THAT DEREK JETERZ WITH A STAIN ON HIS SHIRT LOLOLOLLOLLOLOOLLOLOL LET ME TAKE HIS PICTURE AND TRY TO MAKE SOME MONEY ON THE INTERWEBZ!!!!

Great. Just what we need.

You had to see this coming. And to be honest this is only going to get worse. Or better depending on how you look at it. We can see how this power could be used for good. But honestly, anything that has the potential to make Perez Hilton and company an extra buck just makes me nautious.

Then again, if we saw ARod cuddling it up with Madonna on a Yankee road trip, we’d probably be the first ones to whip out a camera. Which is exactly why all these 5-8MP camera phone beauties coming out are the jam diggity for wannabe celeb stalkers.
