iPhone News, Rumors, Updates & Cracks

August 4, 2008 in AT&T, Apple, Handsets, Wrap-Ups

We’ve noticed numerous other mobile/tech sites around the web stick to iPhone news like white on rice, providing article after article, day after day for Apple Fanboys around the world. That’s not really “our thing” - so we’ve grouped together a “roundup” of the latest iPhone news for those who choose not to be innundated. Afterall, there are plenty of sites dedicated JUST to the iPhone if you’re that obsessed.

iPhone Crack-Up
While there are tons of millions of iPhone lovers out there, plenty of haters are out there too. And those haters are likely cracking up over the latest iPhone 3G news: the casing on the new iPhone, much lighter and less sturdy than the original model, is being reported as “easily cracked” from iPhone owners around the world. Apparently its even happening to iPhowners who treat their phone like a newborn baby. FYI - its seems to be more of a problem with the white iPhones.

iPhone Apps Get UnApped
Earlier this week, an iPhone application called NetShare allowed iPhone owners to use their iPhone as a modem. Essentially, it would create its own WiFi “hotspot” allowing you to connect any computer to the device wirelessly and using the 3G network to surf the web.

It was called “the best iPhone app ever” but was quickly pulled by Apple… for somewhat obvious reasons. Or not… it re-instated the application 24 hours later but not explanation has been given. Weird things have been happening to other applications as well:

BoxOffice, an iPhone App that innocently (we think) displays local movie times and such, was added to and then removed from the App Store. Why? Nobody knows… not even the developer.

Rumor: iPhone Nano By Christmas
Bucket of salt warning - some analysts and purported experts are claiming that Apple will launch an “iPhone Nano” buy Christmas That will also be available via a pay as you go contract. It would make sense as the iPod was tremendously successful with this model and Apple wants to market the iPhone in the same manner and with the same success as its musical counterpart. Nonetheless, its just a rumor for now.

iPhone Stuck on AT&T Until 2010
It appears as if AT&T has worked out a deal with Apple to continue its exclusive deal as the only Carrier to…uhhh… carry the iPhone in the United States through 2009. This news is great for Apple and terrible for consumers… most notably non-AT&T customers who want the iPhone.

  1. The iPhone is expected to be recontracted to AT&T after the 2009-2010 period. Also, when the iPhone is (eventually, if ever) released on another carrier, it will be released to another GSM carrier. It will not be redesigned for CDMA since Apple claims being a CDMA carrier ties you down and they consider themself a global company, especially after the iPhone 3G release.

Verizon Wireless was originally given the opportunity to support the iPhone and be the exclusive carrier in 2007. They denied the request since Apple wanted most of the profits and they wanted to control the customers (i.e. make data plan mandatory, use the App store...not get it now/media center, and more). Verizon also stated the iPhone didn't pass the rigorous testing Verizon Wireless requires.

Sorry CDMA carrier customers (Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, etc) the iPhone will not be hitting your carriers any time soon...or ever.

  2. Apple has great marketing people which includes sensationalizing the iPhone followed by great damage control. People who bought the iphone blunder will not admit it by rationalizing the iphone problems, not to mention a poor service carrier. I heard that the 3G becomes hampered by at&t poor service which doesn't give a true reliable 3g performance not to mention the lack features that were left out of the iphone.

I would be pissed about all mention blunders plus the monthly bill of using the features that the iphone may try to offer, way to expensive. The first thing for any cell phone is great reliable service, second is, cell phone performance of it's features, which is probably depended on good reception. How did Apple ever let a poor battery be introduce to the public, that’s the next thing a cell phone needs, a strong battery, a dead battery instantly turns a cell phone into a rock.

I know the iPhone has been talked to death, but all I could say that it's been the biggest blunder since the millennium scare. Hats off to Verizon for releasing a cell phone like the DARE with a strong battery, great camera, and outstanding video camera, and a great reliable network. I have been truly happy with the DARE, and I can’t say enough about the battery life and camera abilities both video and snap shot.

WHAT I SAY IS TRUE BASE ON MY OPINION, I DON’T OWE VERIZON, LG, OR MOBILE ROAR ANYTHING, NOR DO THEY OWE ME.
