BlackBerry Storm: Announcement & Release Dates

An internal Verizon email featuring clouds in the background, a thumbprint in the foreground and the words, “We’ve got some exciting news to share. Stay Tuned. 9.15.08″ is leading some to believe that Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm will be announced on Monday. The fact that the image in the email is named comingstormjr1.jpg supports the rumor.

The email was initiallly uncovered on Howard Forums by Kevin Byrne who received the email. The BlackBerry Storm is Verizon’s branded version of the BlackBerry Thunder - the first ever touch screen by BlackBerry. Speculation is that the phone will be announced on Monday and the phone will launch on November 1st.

Verizon would be smart to get this information out there ASAP. With T-Mobile slated to announce their HTC Dream in the coming week or two, it would be helpful to already have the Storm/Thunder in people’s minds as one more thing to prevent them from switching networks.

We’ve had our BlackBerry Thunder forum running for some time now and have added a BlackBerry Storm forum to help organize conversation. However, most are saying the phones will be close to identical except for the carrier differences.

This is exciting news… we can’t remember the last time wanted the weekend to end so quickly! By the way that text reading, “Stay Tuned for the Next Minute with Mike.” is likely referring to Mike Lanman, Verizon Wireless VP and Chief Marketing Officer.

UPDATE:  Once the announcement is made, Verizon will have their landing page for the Storm at http://www.verizonwireless.com/storm

  7. Then I will be ordering up my phone on Saturday a.m. then. I'm excited! I've held off on Blackberries because my company doesn't have a crackberry server, but with Storm, it will have compatibility with Exchange.

  11. Not sure, But either way I'm still getting the phone. It probably won't come out until the middle of November since the Blackberry Bold just got announced to be released on the 4TH of November.      by ojallday

  14. After talking to a verizon tech that I know personally, the delayed release date and my experience... im settling for the curve. My billing cycle is over on the 13 and if i wait the extra six day's im going to end up paying two bills . Plus the dare scared me.... no more buying phones when they are first released.

    The tech's in the verizon store should not be greeting me with "You back again?!?!?!?!?!?" LMAO      by Carpediem11203

    oh just financial, adjusting/dropping basically unused verizion services for dare
    adding line for storm vs verizon adjustment and TMO G1 with plan geared 90%data/10%voice , but since this is an i want and not an i need situation

  22. If you're getting the Storm, see how much Crackberry will give you for your current phone. With that trade up program, you can make a killing towards a new phone, even if you're not eligible for the upgrade. Check it out HERE      by chiefsmackaho
