Verizon’s LG Versa Pictures Leak

by Rob on January 24th, 2009

The LG VX9600 passed through the FCC on September 7th and based on a leak from last year we thought this thing would be out in 2008 as the LG SmartLink. We were wrong… it’s called the LG Versa (rumor) and the device STILL isn’t out but to make up for that we bring sacrificial pictures:

We’re hearing that the LG Versa will have all the same capabilities as the LG Voyager and LG Dare except for Mobile TV. The name Versa is short for Versatile – it is a touchscreen phone (like the Dare) that has an optional keyboard attachment (like the Voyager), custom gaming module and other attachable modules that you can use depending on your situation. Like perhaps a “speakers” module for when you want to blast some tunes.

It’s a decent concept but will it be popular? How many people want to carry around a bunch of extra modules? It remains to be seen how this device will “fit in” to your daily life and it could go either way. I’m not sold yet but I think it has potential. Although that cheap looking leather on the back of the phone isn’t doing it any favors.

Instead of carrying a cellphone, an MP3 player, a GPS unit, a day-planner, a notepad, a laptop and wristwatch with five alarms, folks are trying to jam all that into one device. This Versa is going in the wrong direction. Those that want a touch screen qwerty keyboard will get a Dare or Storm, those that want a real keyboard will go with the Voyager or eNV2. Who wants to carry extra stuff? Want better sounds? Use your car speakers or earphones.
