Google Sync: Easing The Depression Of Phone Loss

by Rob on February 9th, 2009

Last week my girlfriend’s BlackBerry Pearl got some dreaded error message. Reboot? Same error. Remove battery? Same error. Bang against wall? Just kidding.

She took the phone to Verizon Wireless and they gave her a brand new Pearl to replace the defective one. Unfortunately, she had no system of backing up her contacts. Chances are, if she is reading this, I am going to be in a lot of trouble next time I see her. Hopefully the fact that I’m offering a solution will help bail me out – Google Sync.

Google Sync allows you to import and sync contacts and calendars from your Google Account to those on your BlackBerry, iPhone, WinMo and SyncML. Take a look at how it works:

Drop your phone in a toilet? No problem. Get a random and permanent BlackBerry OS error message? No problem. Bang your phone against the wall? Just kidding.

But seriously, this looks like a great solution. The problem is moving everything you currently have to your Google account. And that, of course, is the huge task that Google wants you to complete so the Big G plays an even more important part of your life. So much that you actually rely on them for everything. Because everybody knows that losing your phone contacts, calendars and all that jazz is as close to the end of the world as you can come.

When you say no system of back up her contacts i’m going to assume she doesn’t have a computer. Otherwise, every BB ships with Blackberry Desktop Software…which back up all info and can also sync with outlook and other apps. Now that I think about it, I can’t assume she doesn’t have a computer because google sync won’t help her either.
