BlackBerry Storm GPS Location For Google Maps

by Rob on February 19th, 2009

google_maps_blackberry_stormOne irritation for Verizon Wireless customers is that BlackBerry devices can’t access “My Location” via Google or other services. The reason is primarily so Verizon can sell their VZNavigator and like services and collect fees from you, instead of using your data plan and free alternatives. But that is all changing… starting with the BlackBerry Storm.

Storm owners can navigate to http://m.google.com/maps from their phone and download the latest version of Google Maps to try it for themselves. According to the Google Mobile Blog you’ll see improved accuracy for My Location and Latitude.

Currently the BlackBerry Storm is the only Verizon Wireless BlackBerry device that supports this feature. Hopefully it won’t be the last.
