Samsung Memoir Launches Today

Alright T-Mobile fans, today is a big day for you. If the G1 isn’t your cup of tea and you’re looking for a photo-tastic treat then $249.99 and a 2-year contract will net you one of the sickest camera phones on the market – the Samsung Memoir.

With an 8Megapixel Camera, the Memoir is nothing to sneeze at, rather something to “Say Cheese” at. Here are highlights from some of the reviews the Samsung Memoir is getting around the web:
BoyGeniusReport really like the look and feel of the phone, as described below, but feel the lackluster OS work hampers it too much. They’d recommend the Motorola ZN5 or BlackBerry 89000 instead.
The feel of the handset is actually great. It’s a combination of metal, soft-touch-finished paint and plastic which all blend together marvelously. The physical design works extremely well as far as not cramping your style no matter how you’re using the phone — web browsing, taking photos, texting — plus, there’s not too much you can do to hide an 8 megapixel sensor.
Gizmodo seem to like the thing overall, especially the Xenon Flash of the 8MP Camera:
The Verdict: A pretty damn good cameraphone. The TouchWiz UI is pretty much the same as the version on the Samsung Behold. In short, it’s more usable as a touchscreen phone (keyboard is fairly decent) than Windows Mobile phones, but not quite as good as say, Android or the iPhone. It does have haptic feedback, meaning there’s a slight rumble as you press down on the screen. And yes, that implies that the Memoir doesn’t have capacitive touch. You still have to press down when you want to click things. Let it be known that Jesús Diaz does not like some Samsung touchscreen UIs.
And here’s how well the Memoir’s Xenon flash works in complete darkness. Spoiler: Pretty damn well.
EngadgetMobile didn’t seem to think that the 3MP bump in the camera was enough to warrant a larger investment than the Samsung Behold, which they thought was more attractive. Check out their qiuck video review.
And there you have it… the first 8MP Camera Phone to hit the States is the Samsung Memoir, available on T-Mobile and introduced to mixed reviews. Are you going to get it?
