Amazon Kindle iPhone Application Launches

The Kindle or Kindle 2 would set you back a few hundred dollars. I mean, I love books as much as the next guy who likes blogs more but I’m not an avid enough reader to pony up that kind of loot. But if I had an iPhone, I would almost certainly head over to the iPhone App Store and download the free – that’s right FREE – Amazon Kindle application.

The Kindle iPhone App does a lot of the things a full sized Kindle does including:

  • Read any Kindle purchased book/publication
  • Read first chapter of other books for free
  • Adjust font size/style
  • Bookmark pages
  • View notations

And perhaps best of all, if you own a full sized Kindle that “place saving” feature of your Kindle will come in handy as you can start reading on your Kindle and continue reading at another time and place seamlessly on your iPhone.

Because Apple doesn’t allow you to make in-application purchases you have to buy your books and publications seperately which requires you open the Safari browser and make the buy via web. Not a big deal although one would hope Apple could make certain extensions of limits to companies like Amazon – or maybe even a licensing agreement?

So now the jury is out on whether or not reading books on your iPhone is more trouble than its worth. The screen is pretty small and the reading experience – for a full book – seems kind of awkward to think about. But then again if you’re bored on a 20 minute bus ride and need something to do… why not whip out your iPhone and continue your Kindling?

Down loaded application and tried several samples. This thing works just fine. Knew I had a long day flying I went and bought the full version of two books. A five hour layover and two flights, one book done. Easy to read and simple to flick pages with your thumb. Font size can be increased or decreased to your likes. I would reccomend it to anyone.
