Palm Pre Webcast: Live Blog!

by Rob on March 12th, 2009

Why Sprint and Palm? This is what they wanted to emphasize. And that Palm Pre will be a great device BECAUSE of Sprint’s offerings. So if you didn’t know… now you do.

2:37PM: I just asked about tethering.

2:34PM: Alright I’m cutting out of the webcast. Nothing new here. I feel like this was an event more geared towards people who haven’t seen the Pre yet at all or watched the videos. They KNEW that people watching were “tech savvy” but…. OHHHH

The webcast has been a bit of a bummer… not gonna follow the questions unless they’re interesting. Which they haven’t really been.

Question 6: Limit to # of cards open at a time? Yes – no specific number yet.

Question 5: Flash support? Near end of 2009.

Question 4: Still on track for date? Yes

Question 3: Will the center button “light up” like at CES? Yes.

Question 2: How does Pre support email? Google directly, Microsoft Exchange, POP accounts, etc…

Question 1: Asking about Sprint TV and Sprint Applications. The answer is yes they WILL be on the Palm Pre

11:22PM: Main webinar done. Here comes Q&A

11:19PM: He said “lastly what I want to show you on the device” – lets hope that means something new is coming next.

11:17PM: I’m getting kind of bored so I’m going to start subtracting 3 and do Pacific Time since I have some free time.

2:15PM: Nothing new yet. This stuff is already on more YouTube videos than you can imagine.

2:14PM: Showing off the Quick Launch “Wave”

2:13PM: I wish the video area was big and the PowerPoint-ish area was small. I can’t see what’s happening on the phone.

2:12PM: iPhone diss #1  – He said, “Did you say you can remove the battery? Wow!”

2:10PM: YAY! Time to whip out the device!

pre-front

2:08PM: He said people on the webinar are “tech savvy” and I am on the webinar. Therefore I am tech savvy. In your face.

2:07PM: Talk about the Ready Now program. Yada yada yada. Please whip out the device and show me something new!

2:06PM: Individual data plans, Family Plans and Business Pooling Plans will be available for the Pre.

2:05PM: Simply Everything $99.99 unlimited domestic voice, data and texting is the jam diggity

2:05PM: Boasting about Sprint’s awesome 3G network and how its “the most dependable 3G network” and one of the firsts.

2:04PM: Matt says they partially selected Sprint because of their data plan offerings and connectivity.

2:03PM: They introduce themselves and talk about the legacy of Palm and Sprint with the Treo 300 and Treo 700p and Centro

intro

2:01PM: There will be no info on date or price. Just here to share information about the device. Blah!

1:50PM: I have been listening to some pretty jiggy webcast music for the last 14 minutes. I may inquire about keeping this stream open as my own personal radio station. WOoooooooo!

1:36PM: I’m in the Webcast and there is currently a countdown showing David Owens, Director Consumer Acquisition of Sprint and Matt Crowley, Product Line Manager at Palm will be speaking. But we already knew this.

1:34PM: I’m putting my time in Eastern Standard Time, screw the West Coast! Playing around, playing around.

The Palm Pre Webcast – jointly put on between Palm and Sprint – begins in just under an hour (11AM PST). The live blog will be taking place RIGHT HERE. Simple refresh this page and I’ll be adding content to the top of the post as it occurs. Enjoy!

What did they say about tethering?

Nothing. Everything was very PR-ish and they pretty much didn’t say anything new. At all. It was basically, “You know the Pre is amazing and Sprint has awesome service. The two combines make a lovefest. Wheee look at me.”

    Oh well.

I just spoke to someone at Sprint and they said the phone is going to be released at the end of this month!!! I hope she was right because another month may kill the excitement!

I hope it really is coming at the end of the month, think my 755 is trying to commit suicide and clearly there is no cure for my Pre obsession other than the indulgence. I’m going crazy waiting
