Microsoft introduced Windows Marketplace with a promotional video and it sounds like they’ll be rebranding phones with Windows Mobile as “Windows Phones”. Welcome to the year 2009, Microsoft. We can only hope your commercial musical selection will soon join us in the 21st century. But excellent start:

I might have to excuse myself, but besides all the cheesiness, Windows Marketplace looks kind of good and I especially like the integration with your desktop PC and the ability to purchase apps through either a browser or desktop client/application. Here is a screenshot of from the promo:

While Windows Mobile may still be a bit archaic until Windows Mobile 7 launches, even Android doesn’t have a desktop browser for apps. And that, my friends, is a shame. Plus 1 for Microsoft moving in the right direction… at least conceptually.
