Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 Gets Tongue Slipped

by Rob on April 27th, 2009

The good old Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 was a mighty fine handset. Sure, the keyboard buttons could have been more “pressy” if that is even a word and it was a bit on the pricey side, but there is no denying that it was a mighty fine handset. And now, if a slip of the tongue/pen from Skyhook Wireless proves true, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 isn’t too far from the shelves.

In an article discussing how Skyhook Wireless has lost business to free alternatives such as Google’s geo-location service GigaOM wrote:

Once Skyhook was designed into the iPhone, Google folks took notice of Skyhook and started to develop their own competitive offering, which is being offered for free, while Skyhook charges for its offering. Morgan admits that the company has lost a couple of deals because of free offerings. For instance, the X2 edition of Sony Xperia phone (Windows Mobile-based) uses geolocation data from Google.

We’re not positive if this mention was from GigaOM or Skyhook themselves but seeing that X2 in there is promising to say the least. We’re hoping that Sony Ericsson does with the XPERIA what we’ve heard Samsung will do with Omnia and make the product a FULL LINE of devices under the XPERIA name.
