Verizon Contemplating Free Wi-Fi for Subscribers

by Elias Chiddicks on May 4th, 2009

Calling AT&T’s move to provide free Wi-Fi service at Hotspots to their broadband subscribers a “marketing stunt” just a few months ago, Verizon looks like its foot is now firmly implanted in its mouth.

The company is apparently in talks with Boingo Wireless to provide a similar service to customers who subscribe to its broadband internet service, citing the growing trend among consumers to use cell phone and notebook computers to access the Internet.

While talks are still in progress between the two companies, with details such as whether to provide free access only in the region of the user or nationally, the service is expected to début sometime this summer.
