Pre for Canada, Sprint for Fewer Employees

by Elias Chiddicks on May 6th, 2009

The Palm Pre news just keeps pouring in, and the latest bits of information are pretty interesting.

First, the official business. The Pre is now slated to appear in Canada in the second half of 2009. The device will be available exclusively from Bell.

“We’re excited to bring Pre to Canada with Bell Mobility,” said Brodie Keast, senior vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc. “We’ve seen enormous interest from mobile operators worldwide and fully expect to continue to expand distribution for Pre, putting it within reach of more and more customers.”

While the news of the device coming to Canada is good, the choice in carrier is a little unfortunate. Bell has traditionally been known for terrible customer support and disappointing service quality. Hopefully the carrier doesn’t end up holding back the device.

For those wanting minute-by-minute release information regarding the device, they can sign up at either www.palm.com/ca or www.bell.ca/pre. There is no word yet on how much this will cost or when it will be out, but you can read the full press release here.

Speaking of release information, it looks like Sprint has decided to lay down the law. With the release of the Pre approaching it appears that some employees have become to talkie for Sprint’s liking and have been fired.

Word is that at least three retail employees have been fired so far for violating the NDA’s they had no doubt signed, however to us this seems like an odd decision. Unless the employees are running around telling people how bad the device is we can’t how this would negatively affect the company.

Of course, this could also be chalked up to a stunt on Sprint’s behalf, or simply an excuse to get rid of three employees.
