Rogers HTC Dream and Magic get Priced, 6GB Data Plan to Return?

by Elias Chiddicks on May 22nd, 2009

We have two pieces of information for those interested in the introduction of Android to Canada, via Rogers. BoyGeniusReport ninjas have been able to get a hold of pricing, and it looks like both the HTC Dream (G1) and Magic will go for an off contract price of $549.99. This seems a little odd considering that the Magic is far newer than the Dream, and has slightly improved specifications. While little information is known about what the devices will cost on a three-year-contract, the general Rule with Rogers is a $400 savings for those willing to sign a contract, which would put the two devices at around $149.99. We find it hard to imagine that these devices won’t  be differentiated in some manner and price might be the most logical way to do it.

The second bit of information uncoverd by the ninjas was the possibility of special service plans to be introduced with the new releases, namely a National Calling plan and larger data plan. The calling plan, from what has been seen, doesn’t look all that impressive. The plan includes 350 weekday minutes, nation-wide E&W and 1,000 send text messages for $45. Meh. What is slightly more interested is the possibility of the return of the $30 for 6GB data plan first seen last summer with the intro of the Bold and iPhone 3G. As a personal user of both the Bold and the 6GB plan I can say that I never, even with tethering, was able to get anywhere near the 6GB limit but in any case it is good to see Rogers being somewhat aggressive in that department.
