HTC Rhodium/AT&T Fortress Passes FCC
| by Elias Chiddicks on June 8th, 2009 |
Once again the FCC has succeeded in giving us the heads up on a new phone, the HTC Rhodium aka Fortress for AT&T. First let me get this off my chest. Fortress? Really? This naming thing has gotten way out of hand and AT&T is one of the worst culprits. At the very least they could have stuck with the much more badass Rhodium.

With that dealt with, what we have here is a decent looking device with slideout QWERTY keypad. Other deets on the phone include the 3.6 inch WVGA display, push-to-talk, quadband GSM and dualband HSDPA, aGPS, AT&T video share, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. The device will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 to start off with, but 7.0 will replace that via an update in September 2009.

That’s all great and all, but when in the hell is this phone going to be available?

The original date that is was supposed to become available to the consumer was “TA – May 25th 2009″. TA = Timed Arrival. That was a little on the wishful side seeing that at that time the FCC had not approved this phone for use yet. It looks like it will be coming out about mid September from the inside information I got from a friend at AT&T.
I’ll post more if I get more info!
