Samsung Omnia 2 Passes FCC, Headed To AT&T?
| by Rob on July 24th, 2009 |
The good old boys in the Federal Communications Commission have just put the Samsung Omnia 2 through their pearly gates. The phone was originally thought to be heading to Verizon Wireless but with UMTS 850/1900, AT&T just might be in store… those are the bands of the company’s 3G networks!

There are other explanations as well, for example Engadget notes that the model number coming with this kit is i8000L which COULD mean it is headed to Latin America rather than somewhere else. But… then… why would it be going through the FCC and not the LatinAmericaCC or whatever equivalent they retain? Also of note is Rogers in Canada has a 3G network using UMTS 850/1900 so at the very least, AT&T and Rogers folks could import this bad boy unlocked and use it to near perfection.
Here are the reasons you might want to do just that:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 850/1900 MHz, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA5.76 Mbps
- 3.7-inch WVGA (480×800) AMOLED touchscreen, Advanced R touch (Resistive)
- Memory: 8/16GB storage memory, hot-swappable microSD card slot (up to 32GB total)
- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, TouchWiz 2.0 UI with 3D effects
- 800 MHz processor
- 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, dual LED flash, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization, Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) and D1 video recording at 15 fps
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, standard microUSB port, standard 3.5mm audio jack, GPS receiver with A-GPS
- Accelerometer
- DivX/XviD video support
- FM radio with RDS
- Dimensions: 118 x 59.6 x 11.9 mm
- 1500 mAh battery
Now… can someone make a product announcement so we can clear all this up?
