SE’s XPERIA X2 Made Official, Release Scheduled for Q4

by Elias Chiddicks on September 3rd, 2009

The X1, the first of Sony Ericsson’s new XPERIA series, was a trouble child. With some hardware issues directly related to the all important QWERTY keyboard, and a UI that had far too many bugs and hiccups, not to mention a rather high price tag, it wasn’t exactly the runaway flagship success the company was looking for (read: needed, badly).

But if anything, it looks like SE has stayed serious about the XPERIA lineup, improving almost all of our previous quibbles with its older brethren. The X2 will be running Windows Mobile 6.5, and will sport a newly updated “Panels” interface (hopefully with less lag). The design has also been improved, with a more usable looking QWERTY keyboard. On top of this, the specs most definitely remain competive for a flagship phone, including an 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, 3.5 inch WVGA OLED display, aGPS, DLNA, 3.5 mm headphone jack and an accelerometer.

As of yet we have no pricing on this baby, but we do know that it will face limited release some time in Q4. A North American version with WCDMA 850/1900/2100Mhz bands will also be available.
