Yesterday the rumors were running rampant that Verizon Wireless turned down Palm and would NOT carry the Palm Pre. OUCH. That would have been a humongous setback for the up-and-coming Operating System as it desperately needs to attract new customers on new carriers to build momentum. It only took one day for that rumor to be debunked.
Deutsche Bank had this to say on the matter:
We believe the press reports late Thursday afternoon that Verizon would not launch the Palm Pre are incorrect. Our checks continue to point to healthy carrier demand for the Pre early in calendar 2010. We believe Palm has placed orders with the supply chain for another version of the Pre with features highly consistent with a Verizon launch.
Morgan Keegan & Co. seemed to feel the same:
Feb. holds the potential to be a strong Pre quarter as shipments to Sprint likely stabilize and distribution expands to Verizon Wireless (our assumption).
So if you were concerned by yesterday’s news, don’t be… Verizon Wireless will most likely be getting the Palm Pre in early 2010.
