Sony Ericsson Remi-nds Us Of T610

We’ve got the scoop on a new Sony Ericsson phone whose details are limited but we know the codename is Remi. The Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog points out that it looks a lot like the T610 which was quite a hit… so could the codename “Remi” because it “reminds us” or is a “remake”?

Its interesting to note that the 2003 version seems to have a lot of rounded elements while the upcoming “Remi” is more boxy in nature - both the buttons and the phone itself. Which design do you like better?

If you want to know a little more about the phone’s features, this phone is apparently based on the W890 which is a Walkman phone, only this is the unbranded and slightly modified version. Its HSDPA and has 3.2 MP camera (fixed focus only). We’ll keep you updated as official details emerge.

Exhaustive Review of the Sony Ericsson G900

Folks deciding between two different phones often do some snooping online to find out the deal. Others, like us, are just interested in every single phone that comes out. No matter what category you fit into, chances are that the review of the SE G900 over at the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog is WAY more information than you’d ever need.

Hats off to these guys, they really put together a thoughtful review on pretty much every criteria you could ever think of when evaluating a phone. Heck, even the reviewer’s mom offered their input (we kid you not)!

Here is a quick run-through of the most important points, but make sure to visit the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog for the Full Review. It’s a real masterpiece.

SE Paris & BeiBei Get PooPooed

Sony Ericsson’s June 17th announcement included 5 new phones but the absence of the phones dubbed Paris and BeiBei were mysteriously missing from the lineup. Now we know why… they have been cancelled.

According to the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, Sony Ericsson may have shelved the two phones because of overwhelming criticism from reviewers, mentioning Mobile-Review.com specifically. Apparently sticks and stones may break your bones but words will cancel phone launches.

Here are some of the scathing comments from Mobile-Review:

  • honestly speaking, this line-up has come out flat-out clumsy
  • It seems to be that over at Sony Ericsson they believe they can stand up to Nokia and without putting much thought into it they keep releasing direct rivals to the latter’s solutions.
  • Since there is the Sony Ericsson G900 out there that comes with UIQ 3.0 (which should seem no different from the 3.3 release to the average user), a better camera (5 Mpix), slightly bigger casing and, more importantly, a comparable price tag (it will by the time the G702 arrives), we are not sure why they would need to bring a slew of similar phones to the market and put them up against one another without own product portfolio.
  • I’m sincerely disappointed, and it’s not the first time by the way, by the strategy Sony Ericsson is currently applying – it’s a dead-end for this particular maker, period.
  • To sum it up, people felt like the Paris and BeiBei were just crappier versions of the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber Shot and that these crappier versions didn’t offer enough differentiation, and pricetag difference, to be worthy of their own release.

I guess Sony Ericsson agreed with the criticisms and decided to cut their losses.

What’s Left at the Sony Ericsson Event?

Three hours and counting until the live Sony Ericsson event in the Netherlands where they are set to make some big announcements. Unfortunately, all their news might already be old which kind of defeats the purpose and meaning of news to begin with.

Moments ago, CNET Asia dropped an article on the 5 new phones from Sony Ericsson that were showcased at CommunicAsia. And they are… (anti-climactic drum roll please)…

    1. Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-Shot
    2. Sony Ericsson S302 Snapshot
    3. Sony Ericsson F305
    4. Sony Ericsson J132
    5. Sony Ericsson K330

Didn’t we already know about these? Uhoh SE… we hope you’re withholding some prime information from all (if any) of the press that show up so they have something to be excited about.

Here’s a neat little screen shot with the specs and info from CNET:

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1: First Impressions

The Boy Genius got an advanced touchy-feely with the Xperia X1 from Sony Ericsson. The device is Sony Ericsson’s first ever handset built on Windows Mobile and the specs are fantabulous: as BGR points out, its the most highly anticipated handset WinMo handset in recent memory. Does it live up to the hype?

Maybe. The Boy Genius was overly impressed with the Xperia’s speed and specs and style, noting inclusions such as the optical joystick and notification lights that put it a notch ahead most anything else in its class. But… and this is a HUGE but… (stop giggling)… BGR lists the full QWERTY keyboard as, “a major flaw” and, “one of the worst” he has seen.

We respect his opinion, but we’ll wait to past full judgement until we can get the unit in our own hands. IntoMobile has a starkly contrasting opinion of the Xperia X1 keyboard which they called, “a joy to use.” With two completely opposite opinions, we’re guessing the truth falls somewhere in the middle. Or else, they got very different versions of the product along its life-cycle.

Either way, one thing we can’t help but notice is the way this thing looks. I guess phones are people too because either the Xperia simply isn’t photogenic or this thing has a rubbery, play-phone like look that almost makes it appear fake:

But with the one picture that is taken much closer, the Xperia looks to have more of a sleek, brushed metallic finish:

Or perhaps its the fact that its 3AM and our eyes are a bit glazed over.

Whatever way you cut the cookie, the Xperia will be a huge success. If you’re relying on an effective QWERTY keyboard, you’ll want to wait for some more info to come down the pipeline. But if you’re buying this sucker for the specs, stats and performance it looks like you’ve got yourself a winner.

Sony Ericsson Alicia (Walkman Phone) Promo Video

Sony Ericsson might not have much left in the tank for their June 17th PR event where they are rumored to be launching a bunch of sick phones. Unfortunately, we already know most of the rumors… like the leaked promotional video tour of the Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone with codename “Alicia”:

We’re waiting to hear what the official name will be, because it probably won’t be “Alicia”, but beyond that are there any surprises left? We already know about the C905, the BeiBei, the Paris, etc…

Of course, nothing satisfies us more than seeing sweet phones that are rumored get official. So, SonyEricsson, despite the information and video leaks we’ll still be hanging onto your every word. Oh, and we wouldn’t oppose a few surprises along the way.

4 New Sprint Phones Launching Sunday

Sprint is launching 4 brand new phones on Sunday, Father’s Day. And while they are technically “new”, you’ll likely think they’re about as “groovy” and “jiving” as the forced lingo your wannabe cool dad uses. ALL of the following phones feature Push-To-Talk Technology.

First up is the the LG LX400, is a clamshell with push-to-talk Q-Chat feature, 1.3 MP camera, GPS and bluetooth that will set you back $79.99 with a 2-year contract and rebates:

Next we have the Samsung Z400 which claims it is rugged enough to pass Military Specification 810F for conditions such as dust, temperature and altitude. Doesn’t this sound like the upcoming Motorola Adventure for Sprint? These two will likely go head to head, with the rugged nature being the top selling point. $99.99 with 2 years and rebates.

The Sanyo Pro-200 and Pro-700 are pretty run of the mill as well, but do boast e-mail support. The Pro 200 runs $49.99 with 2 years and rebates. The Pro-700 is the exact same phone but ruggedized to pass those Military Specifications 810F you keep hearing about.

Sony Ericsson has been busy, busy, busy… and it looks like they just got busier.

Another leaked phone rumor shows a Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone, affectionately known as “Alicia” for the time being, with an iPod-like circular nav wheel in… just the same place as an iPod.

The phone is likely to be released on Monday, June 17th along with a gaggle of other goodies from SE. So stay tuned to MobileRoar for the latest!

8.1 MegaPixel SE Phone on the Way

You read that right. The iPhone and most other half decent phones these days come packed with the standard 2 Megapixel camera it seems. All that changed rather quickly.

Phones starting popping up with 3+ MP cameras such as the LG Dare that was made official by Verizon Wireless today. Then you have phones like the Samsung Omnia and Sony Ericsson Paris that had 5 MP cameraphones. Sony Ericsson blew them could blow them all out of the water, with rumors, complete with screenshots and videos, of an 8.1 Megapixel Cameraphone.

The phone in question is Sony Ericsson C905 which is currently codenamed Shihoh. We’re not sure if Shihoh will be the official name, but who cares about the name at a time like this… 8.1 megapixels?!?!

The SE Shihoh would be the suitor of the Sony Ericsson C line, which stands for Cyber-shots. And its quite fitting, because we have the Cyber-shits just from thinking about it.

According to the unconfirmed but extremely believable rumors, the Sony Ericsson C905 will claim the following specs and features:

We’ve got 2 words for you, Sony Ericsson: Hubba, Hubba!

    Xperia X1 Updates and Pics

People have been simply DROOLING over the upcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and we’ve got a few tidbits to temporarily quench your thirst.

First of all, the homescreen image got a little makeover… nice. Also, you’ll notice the name “Xperia” graces the area directly below the screen… okay. Finally… a second color was revealed in addition to black - Steel Silver… that’s the hotness.

Sony Ericsson BeiBei: Aye Bay Bay

A Video Tour of the Sony Ericsson BeiBei was recently launched, but personally, it was pretty darn boring with the stock sounding music in the background. Add a little Hurricane - Aye Bay Bay - and you’ve got the illest new phone commercial on the planet:

    Sony Ericsson - Aye BeiBei

Sony Ericsson Launches 2 More Phones that Aren’t the Xperia

After a 48% decrease in profits compared to last year’s Q1, Sony Ericsson likely further dissappointed investors by launching 2 mid range handsets that aren’t all that exciting. Actually, at this point, we don’t really care about anything launched besides the Sony Ericsson Xperia.

We suppose we’ll give you the scoop on those announced anyways, since you asked for it…

There ya go - the Z780 clamshell which we don’t care to elaborate on and the G502 actually doesn’t look too bad but we’re just fine about the fact that it will likely never make it to the states.

Why are we so bitter? Because bad news seems to keep piling up for Sony Ericsson Handsets but they’ve got one of the hottest handsets of the year sitting in their back pocket - the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. So where is it? Huh, Sony? Huh?

Sony Ericsson Z780… Here It Comes!

Thanks to the folks at the Sony Ericsson Blog, we’ve got the inside scoop on the brand new Sony Ericsson Z780. It won’t knock your socks off, but it’s a nice, stylish middle-level phone that should get its fair share of love.

    Sony Ericsson Z780

How did they find out about this puppy? Sony Ericsson left the sliding door on the creened in porch wide open: the Sony Ericsson Blog found that a few XML files on the company’s WAP site that explained these suckers in more detail. Don’t you get the feeling that they WANT you to find this stuff?

The Boy Genius Report and IntoMobile so kindly summed up the few extra uncovered details.
