Default iPhone 3G vs Glyde

This month my contract expires, and I was almost certainly going to upgrade to the Glyde, but I just heard about the new iPhone.

Here are the pros of each vs the other for me:

Glyde:
$250
Smaller
Better Quality Calls (No reviews if there is better call quality on the new iPhones, but the old ones were bad)
Less Breakable
Physical Keyboard
Make any song a ringtone (that verizon clip thing, dunno if there's something like that for AT&T?)

iPhone
$200
8 or 16 gb built-in Vs the 2 gb I could buy to put in the Glyde
More Responsive Touch Screen (Works better and less laggy, plus on the web and with pictures etc more touch options to navigate)
Apps (IM, Games, etc coming out with the SDK)
Screen is more scratch resistant (glass vs glyde's plastic)
Wifi (This is a big +, I'm going to college this fall)
AT&T is the suggested carrier in the area where I'm going to college
Internet has way more than basic HTML capability (Java and Youtube at least, I think)

AT&T kind of sucks where I live now, but I'mma be gone this fall... I'm really considering making the switch, especially because (though both have this) since the iPhone has calendars and notes, plus the wifi (Glyde doesn't have) I wouldn't have to carry my laptop around when not going to class.
The 3G is good, but I don't like using minutes for net, and I'd probably turn off 3G and edge w/ the iphone.

Anyone have suggestions or big points about this?

after having the Glyde for three weeks, i can tell you It "Bows down to the iphone" no competition,
in gonna return this piece of shh back to verizon, and upgrading to the iphone./AT&T

Ive been w verizon since it was Airtouch and worked for them.. and been loyal. but in fed up w all the measures they make to stop you from getting 3rd party apps and downloads. the las t issue was i dowloaded from www.funfromoble and now my gylde cannot receive any, text messages, the touch screen doesnt respond to my touch or when it does it chosses a different menu which idid not request

it has many other issues and quirks.... im fed up.

id rather pay the 199.00 or 299 for 16gig apple ipod and pay the 30/mo for the 3g service than fight big money Verizon./VZW.
good bye Verizon Hello AT&T.

I know some people who really like the glyde. In my opinion, it all depends on what type of mobile user you are and what you plan to do on your phone. If typing/texting is a main priority, the glyde DEFINITELY trumps the iPhone. But the iPhone has the glyde beat in most other areas.

That being said, MORE important to you should be the carrier. What is more important to you, having great service at college or at home? Is one mediocre in both places and the other terrible in one and great in another?

Get the carrier thing straightened out first - no matter how awesome your phone is, if you can't connect to get service it won't matter anyways!

I live right outside a major city, and in the city AT&T is fine, outside of it it's mediocre. At t he college though it's supposedly good, but the Verizon isn't as good (it switches between two area's networks and eats up the battery bad).

Thanks for the advice you guys.
