Default Having Glyde Touchscreen Problems?

We've heard of some people having problems with the Samsung Glyde's touch screen being less responsive than most would like.

Apparently, if you TAPE the battery tightly onto the phone you'll strengthen the electrical connection and the response improves drastically. But, many areas aren't helped and it makes your phone look somewhat ridiculous.

I'd be interested to see what others have to say about this. Have you had problems with the touch screen? Does your touch screen work perfectly? Maybe its just affecting a certain "batch" of phones?

I found this little trick here:
A fix for the Glyde's touch screen? | Crave, the gadget blog - CNET

Although if my phone were behaving so crappily I would ask for a new one. And if that one did the same thing I'd get a different phone. Just my 2 cents!

Personally i think the touch screen is great on the Glyde, it may just be my phone. I tried the tape trick and it didnt really make any difference.

It's driving me crazy and I'm on the verge of returning the phone.
When the phone rings, I press 'unlock' ... 'unlock' ... 'unlock' ... give up and press the unlock button on the side of the phone, then I press 'answer' ... 'answer' .... 'answer.... -- give up and slide the phone open to answer it. As I write this I realize it's time to return the phone.

Mookie...

For the short term, try the tape on the battery trick. When you have a chance, walk in the store and have them give you a new phone. They will. Verizon has been great about this with the Voyager and Glyde. Make sure you have your receipts and stuff.

It seems that the problem came in "batches" so chances are a new Glyde will do the trick. Without that touchscreen problem its a pretty good phone and a simple exchange might be the best idea.

Thanks Rob,

I do like the phone, and the problem seems to be mostly in that lower left hand corner (where the unlock and answer buttons are). One thing I noticed is that the problem is worse when I use my thumb. It's better with the index finger, but I still think I probably got a bad batch. I'll try the tape and will go exchange it.

Hi Rob,

I swapped my Glyde out today for a new one. MUCH better! I wish I had done it sooner because I only have 5 days left on my 30 day return period, but I was thinking it could be user-error. It wasn't. I asked if they would extend my 30-day period to make sure this one works OK, but they said they could not do that. I think the customer service in my store could use a little bit of tweaking. I had to double check to make sure they returned my 8 gig memory card. They had to dig the old phone out of the return box to get it even though I had told them about it up front.

I really do like the Glyde. I think this one is going to work.

Thank you for your help!

Glad everything worked out, Mookie. Hopefully this one will work great for you until its time for your next phone! Good thing you caught the 8GB card... that woulda been a bummer.

Hopefully you stick around and hang out with us!

i got the 'body glove' on mine and it's hit or miss, lately mostly hit (but then again it depends upon what i'm going for) but imo, the gui still needs work.

the screen is very sensative to oils, etc. try turning up the 'sensitivity', that helped but i still had to teach my fingers how to touch the screen. too bad a friggin stylus much less a pencil (eraser end of course) doesn't work.

why can't we zoom the screen, like you can with it's browser? that would help alot for those times the 'button' (hotspot) is too small.

the function 'arrow' keys work in some apps. and not in others, why?

otherwise, this little thing rocks, and with the glove it's even better.

-zig

btw: how do i look through my music library (stored on the phone) while it's playing?

Mookie, with your new phone is it still hard to select one of the bottom edge buttons ( ie. Set, Back, Options, etc. ) on the touch screen?

I purchased my Glyde last month but I don't think I got a "bad batch" because for the most part, I don't have much trouble with my touch screen...EXCEPT for when I'm trying to press something towards the edge of the screen. So I'm wondering if your new phone does that as well or if possibly, my phone is from a "bad batch."

The new phone is definately better than the old phone. I still haven't tried the tape on the battery trick, and I hear that it really does help so I need to go ahead and do that.

I am still intermittently having problems with bottom edge buttons. I'm not sure if the entire screen is locked up or if it is just the edge buttons.

I have started just opening and closing the phone to answer calls and that has relieved my stress level.

I'll try some electric tape on the battery this weekend and report back.

Hmm..I see. So I guess I didn't get a "bad batch" then because the only problem I really have is with the touch screen's edge buttons sometimes but when it comes to answering a call, I haven't had a problem yet. I just hit my Home key then press Answer on the touch screen. However, sometimes when ending a call, I have to hit the Home key MORE THAN twice ( when it's supposed to end the call after hitting the Home key twice ).
