Default Anyone upgrade firmware?

http://www.samsungmobile.com/promotion/omnia/

Anyone that had an older firmware tried to upgrade?

If I get any problem do the warranty cover this official upgrade?

HI, where did you get the firmware from to download? I have done a google search for the firmware and it is not listed anywhere - I want to upgrade the firmware of my phone and see if it fixes the mobile internet issues?

THanks

Don't upgrade to this one, unless you don't mind a short battery life. The latest official HH3 runs everything hot and you will be down to 10% of the battery after listening to music using bluetooth stereo after about 2-3 hours. This is with the screen turned off. Wait until they have the next one posted.

edit: always remembering to have activesync and samsung usb driver installed, and a WINDOWS XP machine, not recommended upgrading on windows Vista

Default How do I upgrade firmware please...

OK...here's one from an ABSOLUTE n00b (but we were all n00bz at one time or the other, weren't we?).

My son purchased an OMNIA and wants to upgrade firmware to the newest HH4 in Dutch but we have no inkling of an idea how this is done. How to we upgrade?

Do we first down the upgrade to our pc and then connect the USB cable to the phone and execute the firmware upgrade or what? I want to make sure that we get this right the first time as we don't have that much money to rush out and pay for another one should something go wrong.

If no one has the time to explain this to us, then please point us in the right direction to a tutorial or something explaining this to us.

All help is MOST appreciated and look forward to a response of some kind from someone knowledgeable.

Greeeetz to all

hey MadRebel,

(yes we were all noobs once! - I might just still be...)

I have upgraded my omnia 3 times so far. Each time I did the following:

1. download the firmware exe from the web (i900DXHI1.exe etc) onto my local pc
2. Upgrade on an XP machine and not Vista
3. Check the phone is fully charged
4. Ensure you have ActiveSync installed
5. Ensure you have the Samsung Modem drivers installed
4. Check the phone is set to ActiveSync on USB Connection
5. Run the exe (double click)
6. connect the phone and then push the reset button on the top of the phone (with a pin or whatever)
7. The firmware prog will detect the phone.
8. Click start.

But be aware people have bricked their phones by doing this. You do it at your own risk and there is nearly always an "OH NO Second" during firmware upgrades when you think its bricked by generally things are ok.

I would say dont use vista and MAKE SURE you have installed the modem driver before the upgrade or things wont work.

BTW guys the battery life on DXHI1 is excellent.

Hope this helps

Thnx alot GG for the kind reply and info. Very helpful.

But...about using XP and not Vista. That's the second time that I've read this. The fist time I can't remember from where. Anywayz...why? Why is better to upgrade only from an XP machine and not a Vista machine? If it's absolutely essential that it only be done on an XP machine, then I've got to setup a dual-boot system just for XP as I'm running Vista Ultimate. (Setting up a dual-boot system is not a problem. Just a bit of a hassle is all).

I'm curious to know the answer to this before I get into the firmware upgrade part of it.

And one other thing...about the upgrade's. The firmware currently running on the phone is version 1. On the Samsung NL site from whre I'm gonna download the firmware upgrade is a version 2 (20080926141315765_i900XXHI2) and the latest version 4 (20080926151145109_i900XKHH4-Multilanguage file). Will I need to upgrade his current version to 2 first and then from verssion 2 to version 4 or can I just upgrade straight from his current version 1 to version 4 and omit the version 2?

And lastly...there's a footnote contained with the description of version that state's: "(Attention: Perform Update first, before installing language file!)". What exactly do they mean by that? Having a hard time understanding that one and that's all the info they give when stating that.

I await your's or anyone's reply on this and thnx again for you help so far m8.

MadRebel,

Dont know about the technicalities of it other than I believe its to do with the Samsung Modem driver on Vista causing bricks and unexpected results.

To be safe I only update on XP although I have seen cooked roms which do work on vista, but I have steered well clear of cooked roms so far (me being a scaredy cat and loving my omnia too much to see it die.)

As for the language packs .. no idea. Havent done anything of the sort. I just ran the downloaded exe's and jobs a goodun.

OK...thnx again for you help and advice m8. Gonna dive in and get my feet wet tomorrow and give it a try.

But as far as bricking go...I understand that if the phone bricks from installing a Samsung sanctioned upgrade, that the phone will be covered by the warranty. You know anything about that? Would hate to brick it and have to end up throwing it in the trash.

Again, thnx m8.

in my post in this thread maybe lol

I dont know why too, but there are more cases of bricking in vista than XP

so... better not even try in vista

Thnx for your reply m8.

I got an old p4 machine with XP installed on it thats been lying around here in dust. Guess I'm gonna have to dig it out, brush it off, hope it's not pissed off at me and try and do the upgrade from that one then. Amazing...we're running 4 Vista machines around here in the house (dual and quad cores) and wouldn't you know it..can't use either one of em for this upgrade. WOW!

OK...gonna give it a try then. Thnx again for your reply and

Question

Godsgift, how do I know if I have Samsung Modem drivers installed and where do I get them?

I also do not understand where I can download these updates. If I go to ww.samsungmobile.com it redirects me to nl.samsungmobile.com and I will only see i900XKHH1 for xp and vista and i900XKHH4 Multilanguage file to make it english. The i900XKHH1 file bricked my Omnia, just got it back from repair service (covered by warranty :-).

Why is this file only 1.7Mb big while other updates are 120Mb? I read on another forum that this would be an "empty firmware" and that samsung helpdesk said they did not understand why this update is still on the site.

What is the newest, the digit at the end, like HH4 or the second letter, the H? I also see HI1 etc on the forums...
