Default question concerning upgrade

I've got an LG Dare right now and my wife is due for an upgrade in May. I've been thinking of getting a Blackberry Storm and was wondering if she got an upgrade for the Storm, would we be able to switch phones? I'm thinking you can but wasn't sure if there is a time limit set for a new phone to be with a certain number for a length of time. I'm hoping to get around having to pay a lot of money for one and thought this would be a good way to go about. Thanks for the help.

you can normally switch phones with *228 opt 3 ,
but the prob you might have is the BB requires the data plan
should not cost anything, as i understand it you just want to trade phones with your wife, so your # is on storm
i would call and ck , procedures might be diff because of data plan

yeah, I don't mind doing the data plan. that's not a big deal. does that *228 opt 3 clear the ESN on the phone? I'll have to see if I can find out from Verizon the whole ordeal. I would really like to get the phone from the get go under my number but since mine isn't eligible for the upgrade then I just wasn't sure.

i did something similar with my two lines. I bought it under a different number than i wanted to ativate it on.
Did take about 20 mins on phone with CR.

as far as esn/meid # , they stay with phone, will speed things along if you have the #'s handy

i do think you will need to do it though 611/CR because of data plan, my understanding is you cannot activate a BB on a number that does not have a data plan, but if you have both phones in front of you and CR on landline should not be tough.

oh be nice and patient with CR.

Default Go for it!

I have 3 lines with Verizon and have done this more then once. The easy way to do it is go in the store.
The computer will show which number is due for a upgrade, all you have to do is tell them you would like to use the new phone on your number instead, they will still apply the upgrade credit to your wife's number but you can have the phone.
Then should your wife want the Dare go home and activate it on the computer that way there is no charge for it, make sure you have Verizon transfer your contacts from the Dare to the Blackberry while your at the store since the Blackberry doesn't support the contact backup service on get it now.
This will only work if both of you are listed under the same account.
Also remeber you will have to buy a data plan for the Blackberry in order to activate the phone.
Enjoy your new smart phone.

thanks all for the help. This definitely broke it down for me pretty easy. I figured it could be done, just wasn't sure how. Haven't decided if I wanted to wait till the end of May to do the switch or try to get one off Ebay now. I guess if I went the ebay way, I would want the ESN to check it and see if it's available for activation. Best way to do that would be under My Verizon right?

prob need to call 18009220204 / 611 , ask for CR they can check esn for you
honest seller should not have prob given you esn, you can check to see if it is reported as lost, stolen , frozen (done for lack of payment) and if you will be able to activate on vzw
depending on how much you trust the seller....
i would also activate online, if you do take it to store and it turns out to be on "list" they can keep it and file police report
